Cristina Cordova is a sculptor currently based in Penland, North Carolina. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Cristina was in school for engineering when she realized that she was happier painting, drawing and creating art.

It was undeniable. She had a conversation with her parents and they decided together that she should pursue life as an artist. She started working with clay and finally found she knew exactly what she wanted to do.

After completing her Bachelor of Arts, Cristina had planned to return home to Puerto Rico after completing her Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. However, that plan changed when Cristina started a family, another residency program, and eventually her career in North Carolina.

She now works with ceramics to create powerful, reflective figures which create an emotional entry point for those experiencing her work. She often jumpstarts her work with a specific notion: what is important to her culture or her family. She envisions herself primarily as a growing artist; though her identity now includes being a partner and a mother.

Her work is exhibited as part of the permanent collections of the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Puerto Rico, and the Fuller Craft Museum, among others.
